About

Saint Joseph School is a nurturing Catholic school community that seeks to answer the call of Christ: To love God and neighbor. We support and teach our students to be respectful, creative, critical thinkers who strive for academic excellence and seek to serve, so that they can be confident and productive members of their community.

Saint Joseph School was established in 1929. The school was staffed by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston who continue to serve along with the other religious communities. In 1999, part of the first floor of the convent was designated as the site of a preschool facility. Saint Joseph preschool is a state of the art facility for three and four-year-old children.

A qualified and dedicated faculty and staff in both the preschool and the elementary school educate children in environments that supports, encourages, and nurtures spiritual, intellectual, social and personal growth in the Catholic tradition. Saint Joseph School is fully accredited and continues to provide quality Catholic education to Saint Joseph Parish and many surrounding parishes and communities.

The Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Lyons number nearly 1,000, serving in four provinces (Maine, Mexico, India and Europe) in fifteen countries. The Sisters operate many Catholic schools and hospitals in France, the United States, Canada, Japan and England. In India they operate hospitals, homes, and orphanages.

The story of the origin of the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph may be divided into two parts—first, that of their foundation of the Feast of Saint Teresa of Avila, October 15, 1650, at LePuy, France, by the ardent and zealous Jesuit, the Reverend John Peter Medaille, S.J., and second, that of its restoration at Lyons by our saintly Foundress, Mother Saint John Fontbonne, after the ravages of the French Revolution.

Saint Joseph School was awarded a 10-year renewal of accreditation in February 2020.  This accreditation followed an extensive two-year self-study of all aspects of our school, including mission, health and safety, governance, academics, and student experience.  We are proud to have met and passed every standard for accreditation!  Furthermore, we are fortunate to have been commended in many areas: “The Commission commends the entire school community for its commitment to the education and nurturing of its students.  In addition, the Commission commends the school for welcoming its racially, culturally, geographically, religiously, academically and socioeconomically diverse student population.”
